The Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus is almost certainly not the final iteration of SARS-CoV-2 that the world will face, says a technical study published in the journal Science.
Researchers identified mechanisms through which the SARS-CoV-2 receptor binding domain tolerates large numbers of simultaneous antibody escape mutations at the cellular level. This points to the emergence of more variants of COVID beyond the Omicron variant that could be more resistant to vaccine.
