A Christmas party in Oslo that led to Europe’s biggest Omicron outbreak shows rapid spread of the virus, short incubation, high breakthrough rate, but mild to moderate symptoms and no hospitalizations.
Norwegian follow-up of those infected at the late November party, shows that although most of those infected had been vaccinated twice with mRNA vaccines, and that many of them did rapid testing showing they were negative for COVID prior to the event, none of them ended up in hospital after developing mild to moderate COVID symptoms.
In total, 111 out of 117 attendees (95%) participated in the interviews with Norwegian health authorities. The average age was 39. Most respondents were x2 vaccinated – none were boosted. Eight previously had COVID-19, but none in the previous 4 months, according to information gathered through the interviews.
