The United Kingdom reported a further 90,349 COVID-19 cases on Friday, driven largely by the BA.2 Omicron variant.
Around 5.6 per cent of people in London had tested positive in the week ending March 12, according to the Office for National Statistics.
About 2.7 million people in England had Covid in the week to March 12, the ONS said.
This was up from 2.1 million the previous week and is the second week in a row that infections have increased.
